Fossá
The house at Fossá sits quietly within a sheltered reforestation area in Hvalfjörður, surrounded by young woodland and the raw drama of the fjord. At the heart of the project was a clear intention: to preserve the small existing summer cabin untouched, while extending the building in a way that respected both its modest scale and the surrounding landscape. A new structure was therefore placed alongside the original house — not as an imitation, but as a companion that allows the home to evolve over time and eventually transform into a fully functioning residence.
From the old cabin one steps gently down into the new addition, where the architecture opens towards the landscape. A panoramic window frames the vast scenery of Hvalfjörður, capturing shifting light, weather and horizon. This opening becomes more than a view: it is a seated space for daily life, a moment of pause, and a threshold that extends the interior outward. When opened as a balcony door, the entire gable dissolves, allowing nature to flow inward while drawing the occupant outward toward the terrain.
The design balances preservation and renewal — holding onto the charm and intimacy of the existing structure while offering a new spatial experience rooted in openness, landscape connection and the long-term possibilities of the site.
